About this calculator
The mean is the sum divided by the count. The median is the middle value once the numbers are sorted (or the average of the two middle values). The mode is the value that appears most often, and the range is the largest minus the smallest.
Worked example
For 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 the sum is 108, so the mean is 108 ÷ 6 = 18. The median is the average of 15 and 16, which is 15.5.
How to use the average calculator

Frequently asked questions
When should I use the median instead of the mean?
Use the median when a few very large or very small values would pull the mean away from what is typical, such as house prices or salaries.
Can a list have more than one mode?
Yes. If two or more values share the highest count, each of them is a mode.
